Full Spectrum: The Academy of Art Spring/Summer 2017 NYFW

Women, Men, Fashion, Runway

In its twentieth season showing during New York Fashion Week, the Academy of Art University proves to continually produce some of the best and the brightest talent in the industry — students who are unafraid in style, inspiration and expression, revealing them in the grandest way for an eager audience.

With the designers ranging in their upbringing, hailing from as far away destinations as Singapore to Alaska, the variety in creative vision is absolutely inspiring. Thirteen young designers: Nina Nguyen Hui, Melissa Kheng, Natalia Sheveleva Robinson, Yi Ru Chen, Jing Qian, Lindsay Trueman, Ben Ellis, Anita Szu-Yi Chen, Dora Li, Carly Dean, GeuMi Lee, Brandon Kee and Yolanda Chiu, make up the tightly selected group ranging from focused studies in textile, apparel and accessory design.

Standout trends featured statement acrylic eyewear, lax 90’s streetwear and beachy inspired styles in dynamic prints. We also saw futuristic athleticism, asymmetrically constructed knitwear, gender-free separates, oversized tailored womenswear and ethereal sheer gowns.

The #Lucky13 took their rightful spot alongside the numerous talent-filled Academy of Art University Alumni, who’ve burst right through the front door of the industry. Cheers to twenty more seasons of booming, young creators!
