Some Like It Hot: Jonathan Simkhai Spring/Summer 2017 NYFW

Women, Fashion, Runway

Capturing the duality of ultra-soft femininity and bold sensuality is no easy feat. Expressing both visual moods through style teeters on a thin line and can go too far right or left quite easily. Jonathan Simkhai has no issue with seamlessly creating a cohesive collection that displays both femininity and a no-holds-barred sense of sexuality, producing clothes that are fit for the ultimate woman; one who is embracing of all facets of her womanhood and unafraid to live comfortably in that ideal.

A tight palette including crisp white, inky black and true blue denim tones melded perfectly together and was the right balance to highlight the depth shown in the silhouette and construction of each piece. One of the varied standouts was a dangerously deep-v slip dresses adorned with high-low ruffles starting a few inches above the hem, as well as denim and crochet bustier dresses layered atop oversized pearly white button-ups. The evolution of the choker trend using floor-length chiffon fabrics tied around the neck, with excess fabric flowing openly along to the beat of each model’s step, was a sort of “ode to modesty” paired alongside super sexy styles. S/S 2017 was another strong and fluid collection from Simkhai, who continually solidifies his preferred style and audience with each passing season.
