Incredibly eclectic, Michelle Helene’s Spring/Summer 2017 presentation for New York Fashion Week is sure to create some buzz within the blogosphere. The burgeoning designer was unafraid of mismatched prints and color, instead using them to her advantage to cultivate a commercial pop-art-esque expression of the ‘70s. We saw a graphic B&W jumpsuit with coordinating headscarf alongside a floral shift dress with flared sleeves. The sheer, ruffled dress styled within denim separates was genius. It embodied the carefree and lackadaisical spirit that was so iconic of the decade. Accessorized with bags of bananas, brushed-out curls and rainbow tears, Michelle Helene’s current collection is decidedly more contemporary and accessible compared to previous seasons. Still very much a young and emerging brand, how Helene decides to move forward while defining her brand identity keeps us anticipating what will come next.
