7696 KARMA: Kimmy J Spring/Summer 2017 Concept Korea NYFW

Women, Men, Fashion, Runway

Streetwear through and through, Kimmy J brings back old-school windbreakers and tracksuits in her collection titled, “7696 KARMA,” for Concept Korea. Initially a bit of a cryptic name, the numbers actually represent the childhood years of both the designer Heejin Kim and her parents. Inspired by the concept of fate and previous states of existence, Kim made it more accessible and less abstract by interpreting it through a sportswear lens. For the Spring/Summer 2017 season at New York Fashion Week, magical unicorns reminiscent of Lisa Frank stationery were embroidered on mesh jerseys, while a shimmering crushed velvet took shape in a cropped pink jacket. Slick and shiny satin was aplenty — sure to be a recurring SS17 trend — through boxing robes, hot pants and joggers. Though perhaps absurd on the outset, Kimmy J is completely wearable; it’s cheeky, humorous and relevant in today’s digital fashion playground.
