Quiet Matriarchy: Alejandra Alonso Spring/Summer 2017 NYFW

Women, Fashion, Runway

A relative newcomer to the scene, Alejandra Alonso is shy and understatedly beautiful. For Spring/Summer 2017 at New York Fashion Week, the collection saw a series of garments that felt unpretentiously refined. Evoking the images of a sophisticated matriarchy, there were ankle-length swing dresses with asymmetric hems as well as wonderfully chunky and braided knit shawls. Gentle suiting with loose, deconstructed cuts remained feminine in shades of dusty rose and beige. There seemed to be a healthy dose of the ‘50s American housewife as well in knee-length pleated skirts and silky trench-coats. Alonso does a fantastic job at channeling feminine elegance, whether it be through conventional floor-length dresses or through the soft shape and construction of a pantsuit.
