Growing Up: Palmiers Du Mal Spring/Summer 2017 NYFW:M

Men, Fashion, Runway

Palmiers du Mal retains its sense of cosmopolitan worldliness in its Spring/Summer 2017 offerings. Co-founders Shane Fonner and Brandon Capps emphasized their increased investment in fabric sourcing, choosing unusual textiles that are novel to menswear and beautiful in their own right. Always embodying a cultural pastiche, the duo revealed Malian bogolanfini (cotton fabrics dyed with mud), English cashmere, Japanese denim and a Spanish floral print silk. The “Palmiers playboy,” a term used to describe the brand’s ideal client, has in some way sobered up. Though still a bon vivant, the loose tailoring and relative subtlety of the collection is a testament to his maturity. Double-belted noragis are cooly worn aloof, while heavier canvas materials mediate the prismatic array of dyes. Bohemian to the core, Palmiers du Mal continues to flesh out its brand character, taking the chance this season to advance and redevelop all of its nuances.
