Julien David showcased a Spring/Summer 2017 men’s collection alongside his women’s options, joining a wave of designers across New York, London, Milan and now Paris who are opting for a combined runway experience, cutting down on expenses and optimizing production processes. And it was also waves of the maritime variety that were on David’s mind as he presented a lineup of filled with patterns and textures, shapes and silhouettes in a range of hues summoned from the sea. The collection itself was filled with his signature workwear jackets, along with body-hugging cotton-jersey cardigans, kimono coats and a 3-D zigzag-stitching motif to replicate waves’ rhythm and peaks. His dedication to solid research and development certainly came through this season with a checkered cotton pattern that looked a lot like insulation foam as well as a woven jacquard turned inside out. These unique textiles made up several key looks this season, all of which were easily recognizable and fun to wear.
