Space Race: Christopher Raeburn Spring/Summer 2017 LC:M

Men, Fashion, Runway

Influenced by the terrestrial dystopian future portrayed by George Lucas in his 1971 film debut, “THX 1138,” British designer Christopher Raeburn delivered a Spring/Summer 2017 collection  packed with technical fabrication. Shown were white parkas and shorts made from Tyvek, a tear-resistant, paper-like material used to protect buildings during construction, and coats with zippered shrink-wrap-like pouches in fire and water-resistant Nomex. More technical outerwear options appeared in iridescent teal nylon and parachute materials, carrying Raeburn’s dedication to sustainability and textile innovation over into the new season.

It’s not often designers can present entirely wearable collections while staying true to their vision, values and virtues, but Christopher Raeburn is such a designer. He continuously showcases fabrics recycled, reused and remade in inventive ways that are both original and  easy to wear, and Spring/Summer 2017 is no exception.
