There may be no better time than the present, to escape to Carlos Campos’ latest spring/summer collection. As sweet and as comforting as a hot plate of sweet plantains. As leisurely as a stroll on the white sands of the beach. Campos’ ode to Cuban bliss was duly noted and needed. Aaah, the simple life. A simple man. A tobacco farmer, to be exact, was where Campos plucked his latest inspiration. An olive grosgrain uniform jumpsuit. Day. A white tropical wool double breasted tailored jacket. Night. Seamless duality. Silk scout scarves tied round-the-neck and geometric leafy printed shorts sang an unapologetic flamboyance.
It was a collection built around a most mythic creature, the gentleman. The kind of man who summers in the islands lounges at the Ritz and parties at the country club. Wears his heart on his cashmere sleeve and reserves his affections for one woman (or man). A fantasy. But perhaps, through dressing, we can all learn to be better men.
