Katie Roberts-Wood, designer behind label ROBERTS | WOOD, presented an atmospheric Spring/Summer 2017 collection at London Fashion Week. Her light and translucent garments, a cornerstone to the brand’s ongoing aesthetic, reflected a fleeting and ephemeral moment. Indeed, there was a quiet sense of magic in her frilled and knotted separates. Frilled trousers felt like a more sophisticated version of 19th century bloomers, while her array of sheer materials (one with spotted flecks, others with minutiae stripes) felt meek and vulnerable. Undeniably skilled, Roberts-Wood fashioned a unique braiding technique with panels of organza in several of her garments: the result was an unstitched construction that flowered with airy ruffles. Despite these embellishments, the collection felt knowingly modest and tame. Roberts-Wood avoided unnecessary showstoppers in favor of handiwork that testified to quality detailing, subtlety and tact.
