Photographer Tassel Calatroni helps capture the intimacy of self-reflection imbued in COMEFORBREAKFAST’s premiere Spring/Summer 2017 line, bringing to life an aesthetic indicative of the selfie. Emphasizing the individual’s own sense of spatial awareness, the Italian collection features knitwear that plays on the idea of negative and positive space: the holes of the fabric providing a multidimensional quality. The relationship between the private and public self is further highlighted through graphics displayed on various garments, creating a layered effect.
Although the line is laden with conventional pieces like T-shirts and track pants, there is a narcissistic quality to each one that makes them utterly chic. Many of the looks have thoroughly retro inspirations, but with an element of modern minimalism — seen through unique pairings and cutouts — that culminate in updated looks born out of the 70s. Innovative masculine nightgowns and sporty vests also make appearances within the collection. The fabrics make just as much of a statement as the garment styles themselves, however: contrasting materials like rigid denim and fluid viscose highlight the collection’s initial perception of the multifarious man.
