Inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s 1987 British-American war film, the “Full Metal Jacket,” Kenneth Ning’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection presented during New York Men’s Fashion Week explored the rigors of military life through a lineup of ghillie sniper suits and camo jacquard. In some places Ning’s spring wares appeared almost apocalyptic in styling, while in others there was a lighthearted and mismatched range of shirting in checks and solid military hues – doubled over and layered with dystopian deconstruction. Ning’s utilitarian cargo vibe throughout this season’s collection resulted in several standout looks, from a sleeveless field jacket to a vest in said camo jacquard.
