Like Terminator androids they stood. Backs as straight as the crease in their dress pants. A zipper harness slung over their shoulders. The new business casual? Perhaps. This sharp simplicity was just another example of Chapter’s exercise in modern wearability and high drama. As in clothes you can wear. Now.
At this point, drama seems to be the foundation for all the SoCal brand’s collections. This season they explored the relationship between harsh architectural lines, the spirit of socialization and human interaction,(their words). The collection also took its cues from Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 adaption of Romeo + Juliet. Imagine a young Leonardo DiCaprio in mesh and floral. Right down to the strings, classical string duo Kang and Andrei Matorin provided the melancholy. The moody blue light also played a factor. It bathed an androgynous model in a blousy button-up and cigarette pant into contemplation, it shadowed another.
And here we are. Another love story in concept and design. Another narrative. Another Chapter.
