Constructed entirely from natural fabrics, Phoebe English’s first official menswear presentation at London Collections: Men offered a Spring/Summer 2017 capsule collection with long shirt dresses, soft cotton joggers, smart minimal coats and a variation on the bomber. With hooded smock tops in grey striped linens, dusty blue-grey hues, brushed cottons and crisp white shirting filling in the rest, the parallel to her women’s line was unmistakable. Combining familiar shapes with the recognizable fits that she pulled from her previous men’s collections, English filtered them through a gradient of accessibility and relaxed silhouettes. Recently endorsed by the Topman-sponsored NewGen Men prize, the Phoebe English MAN presentation was easily one of this season’s most anticipated shows. Her particular attention on form, fabric and finishing paid off, culminating in a wearable, nonchalant collection that places functionality over decoration — no frills or fuss involved.
