Global Vacation: General Idea Spring/Summer 2017 NYFW:M

Men, Runway

South Korea is no exception to the pervasive influence of globalization. As boundaries begin to dissolve and the migration of concepts and people become ever more common, the country continues to find itself well-integrated within the international landscape. Giving shape to this is designer Bumsuk Choi, the mastermind behind General Idea who presented at New York Fashion Week: Men’s. Interpreting this pluralistic nature as a vacationing traveler, we were presented with a slew of garments that take, “airport style,” to a whole new level.

Crisp tailoring in the shirting and trousers are, for the most part, classic save for their wider shapes. This is re-iterated in collars and detailing. Army green leather appliques look fantastic alongside a wider funnelneck piece and coordinating high-rise pants. Despite the label as Spring/Summer collection, there was a good deal of outerwear, though offered in relatively lighter fabrics and shapes. A beige mac with embroidered sleeves is the perfect urban accompaniment to hour long flights, as was the cobalt jacket with aviator shaped embellishments. And though predominantly wearable, there were traces of luxury in the metallic bomber jacket, vastly oversized grommet-detailed gillet and thickly striped trousers.
