Grommets for Days: Huishan Zhang Spring/Summer 2017 LFW

Women, Runway

Born in China, London-based designer Huishan Zhang merges inspiration from his home country with European flare to produce a sophisticated yet forward-thinking collection for Spring/Summer 2017 at LFW. Though light and feminine, every piece had some form of majorly cool detailing. The first few dresses featured in the show were cut with flowing silhouettes and embellished with metal grommets and navy and white feathers. Although every garment called for attention, it was hard to miss the lace-up ballet flats, each pair frayed to perfection with coordinating detailing. As the show progressed, the color theme transformed and took on a livelier tone: pastel yellows, bubblegum pinks and light wash denim. Each pantsuit, dress and skirt was covered in frills and studded with multicolored flowers, creating a 70’s-inspired vibe. Without going overboard, Zhang effectively plays with fun and unique details that create a refreshing and memorable style.
