For Fyodor Golan’s Spring/Summer 2017 showing at London Fashion Week, it was all about taking a trip into the future. Old school denim was deconstructed, done in everything from jeans, tunics and oxford collared shirts, was finished with flitty flamenco ruffle and silver embroidery. Matching boots, in faded denim with highlighter bright heels, climbed up the leg and stopped mid thigh. Futuristic metallics (including a floor-length ball gown skirt and a workman’s set) were futuristic in presentation, were also reminiscent of the look-at-me metallics most notably seen in 80’s music videos. A barrage of high-voltage neon looks, with base colors ranging from black to neon pink to day-glo green, had delicate embroidery reminiscent of the walls of a glo-in-the-dark mini putt. Accessories had just as much life as the garments – a red fun fur clutch (more reminiscent of a muppet than your traditional fine fur detailing) and neon green hiking boots, as well as metallic and denim thigh highs, paired well with every one of the alienistic looks.
As much as Podgorny and Frydman take on technical innovations in their fabric utilization, the real innovation was found in their CGI presentation. Viewers were given large headphones to watch the runway presentation, shown projected on a life-size CGI screen. Since, although CGI is technically stunning the fabric details get lost in translation, real models followed soon after.
